Mid-Year Check-In: Strengthening Your Marriage Halfway Through the Year

Where is 2024 going?!! We have officially reached the midpoint of the year, so it's a perfect time to reflect on your marriage and ensure it's thriving. Just like any important aspect of life, a marriage benefits from regular check-ins to address challenges, celebrate successes, and set new goals. Here’s how you can make the most of your mid-year marriage check-in:

  1. Reflect on the Past Six Months: Take some time together to look back on the past half-year. Discuss the highs and lows, the moments that brought you closer, and the challenges you faced. Acknowledge and celebrate the progress you’ve made together.

  2. Open Communication: Use this check-in as an opportunity to have an open and honest conversation about your relationship. Share your feelings, thoughts, and concerns without judgment. Active listening and empathy are key to understanding each other better.

3. Revisit Your Goals: Review any goals or resolutions you set at the beginning of the year. Have you achieved them, or do they need adjustment? Set new goals if necessary, whether they’re related to personal growth, your relationship, or shared dreams.

4. Assess Your Communication: Evaluate how well you’ve been communicating with each other. Are there areas where you can improve? Consider adopting new communication strategies to enhance your connection and reduce misunderstandings. One of the best ways to do this is by using one of the 4 communication tools we teach in our classes: The DTR, The "US" Card, Taking out the Trash or Heart to Heart. If you're not familiar with these, check out where our Adventures in Marriage classes are offered HERE! We would love the opportunity to teach you these skills that can transform communication in your marriage!

5. Reconnect and Rekindle: Plan some quality time together to reconnect and rekindle your romance. Whether it’s a weekend getaway, a date night, or simply spending uninterrupted time together, make sure to prioritize your relationship amidst the busyness of life.

6. Address Unresolved Issues: If there are any lingering issues or conflicts, now is a good time to address them. Approach these conversations with a problem-solving mindset, focusing on finding solutions rather than placing blame. Once again, using the tools we teach can really help keep these conversations from spiraling out of control. If you are struggling in your marriage, just know this: YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!! And one more thing: We are HERE for you!!! We would love the opportunity to help you!

There's always hope! Don't give up!
