Adventures in Marriage is a highly interactive 9-hour workshop that teaches specific, practical skills for healthy, successful relationships. Through Adventures in Marriage, couples will learn critical communication skills needed for confiding, listening to understand, resolving conflicts, safely expressing anger, and eliminating dirty fighting. Practical, fun and easy to learn, Adventures in Marriage is appropriate for couples at any age or stage in their marriage. This program is designed to reach couples across the spectrum – from high-risk to highly-motivated.
What are some of the benefits of going through Adventures in Marriage?
• Create the marriage you have always wanted with the spouse you already have
• Satisfy your biological need for bonding and closeness so that you do not feel alone
• Recognize when your communication style is more of a problem than the actual problems you are facing
• Develop the ability to feel genuine empathy for your partner instead of secret resentment
• Express yourself clearly so that your thoughts and feelings can be recognized and understood without causing your spouse to feel resentful, overwhelmed, manipulated or inadequate
• Avoid the mind reading that so often leads to misunderstanding between couples, and learn to avoid assumptions
• Express and accept anger without destroying love
• Fight in such a way that you actually resolve the issues at hand
• Acknowledge and enjoy the differences between you and your spouse, rather than see him/her as a threat
• Turn a good marriage into a great marriage
• Find hope in a struggling marriage
• Understand what went wrong in previous relationships or what is going wrong now

About the Authors

In 1975, Dr. Lori H. Gordon developed the first graduate level course on marriage and family at American University. She chose to build into the course everything that she had learned that was effective in helping couples achieve fulfilling relationships for themselves and their children and avoid relationship breakdown. She wanted this new marriage education program to be practical, clear, and experiential. Dr. Gordon's work is one of the few marriage education programs in the country that has been through rigorous research to verify its effectiveness in preparing, strengthening, and restoring healthy marriage relationships. Dr. Gordon's work incorporates lessons learned from other marriage education pioneers including Virginia Satir, George Bach, Daniel Casriel, Bernard Guerney, Murray Bowen, Clifford Sager, Ira Progoff, Nathanial Branden, Jean Houston, Ivan Boszormeny-Nagy, and many others. Adventures in Marriage selects from the best in these educational, therapeutic, and human potential fields, integrating them into an experiential whole.

Richard Albertson is the Founding President of Live the Life in Tallahassee, Florida. The mission of Live the Life is to strengthen marriages and families. Richard is the author of the Start Smart comprehensive premarital program, author of the Champions curriculum for High School Boys, and the co-author of the Adventures in Marriage curriculum along with Dr. Lori H. Gordon. He served as Chairman of the Florida Commission on Marriage and Family Support, and later served as Chairman of the Florida Commission on Responsible Fatherhood. Richard organized 70 pastors to come together to adopt a Tallahassee Community Marriage Policy in 1999. Since the implementation of the policy, the divorce rate in Leon County has dropped 29.6%.
